Moroccan activists released.

We are happy to share the news that the Moroccan authorities released journalists Omar Radi, Taoufik Bouachrine and Soulaimane Raissouni and the human rights defender Saida El Alami on 29 July 2024, alongside other whistle-blowers and activists, after they received royal pardons.

Thank you to everyone who has taken action calling for the release of journalists and human rights defenders in Morocco/Western Sahara. Since 2020, activists have supported three Urgent Actions for Omar Radi, calling for a fair trial, the dropping of the “national security” charge against him, and a review into his detention.

This release serves as a reminder of the need to continue campaigning against repression and injustice. Hirak el Rif activists are still in detention for peacefully protesting for their rights. In June 2018, a Casablanca court sentenced Nasser Zefzafi to 20 years in prison for his peaceful activism.

We invite you to please share the attached graphics on social media, announcing the good news but also demanding the release of the remaining detainees. You can also share Amnesty’s existing posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook.
